Product application:

1. Anticoagulants: In anticoagulant therapy, it has been found through testing that DSS is a potential alternative to heparin. This anticoagulant activity was discovered by Gronwall et al. in 1945, and compared to heparin (130 units/g), dextran sulfate has lower anticoagulant activity (15 units/g).

2. Antiviral and anti enzyme activity: Baba et al. have demonstrated through in vitro experiments that DSS can inhibit the binding of various enveloped viruses, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), herpes simplex virus (HSV), and cytomegalovirus (CMV), to cells. In addition, DSS has demonstrated inhibitory effects on various enzymes, such as hyaluronidase, adenylate cyclase, and amylase.

3. Lipid removal: During plasma separation, DSS is used to precipitate low-density lipoprotein and very low-density lipoprotein (LDL and VLDL). Oncley et al. established a method for separating and removing lipoproteins from plasma and whole blood. DSS binds to cellulose matrix in the machine collection system, selectively removing lipoproteins from human plasma.
